Lifting Tong Configurations

Supporting Tongs

Supporting Tongs:
Supporting tongs are mainly used to lifted objects such as boxes, crates, containers and bins and excel at keeping these loads on a horizontal lifting plane. Objects lifted by supporting tongs must have clearance underneath so the lifting feet can be properly inserted under the load.

Gripping Tongs

Gripping Tongs:
Gripping tongs are mainly used to lift loads such as ingots, rolls, tubes, pipes and many other round or cylindrical object. The tong arms securely grip the load below the center to provide enough support. Gripping tongs can lift loads of virtually any length, but a single gripping tong can only lift loads whose diameters vary by about 25%. This means that if you need to lift loads with greater varying diameters, two different gripping tongs will be required.

Pressure Tongs

Pressure Tongs:
Pressure tongs are mainly used to lift loads such as boxes, bails, slabs, and billets, as well as many other flat or round objects. Pressure tongs feature pads that either create friction to lift the load or penetrate the load with serrated teeth to get a secure grip. These pads come in a variety of designs and materials including rubber, pins, hardened points, belting, serrated bits and many other materials.
