All drum handling equipment can be modified to lift and tilt a variety of drum sizes and weights, including 55 gallon drums. Drum lifters can also be modified to handle drums used for hazardous materials.

Types of Drum Lifters

Below the hook drum lifters and tilters mainly differ in two ways:

1. How the tipping is actuated
2. How the device grips the drum

The gripping and tipping of drum lifters and tilters can be operated either manually or by a motor. Manually operated drum lifters can also be equipped with an optional hand chain which allows the drum to be rotated when the device is out of the operator’s reach.

Furthermore, below the hook drum lifters either grip the drum using compressive forces around the circumference of the drum, or by cradling the drum around the top, bottom and sides. Drum handlers which use compressive forces work with 55 gallon drums, as well as many other drum styles and sizes. However, they cannot be used to lift fiber or plastic drums.

Cradling drum handlers also work with 55 gallon drums, as well as many other drum styles and sizes, but unlike compressing drum tilters, cradling drum tilters can be used to lift and tilt both plastic and fiber drums. Drum grabbers that cradle the drum are perfect for lifting and tilting drums that are either damaged or cannot withstand high compression.
